The Construction Industry : the future of building blocks

Updated: Jun 20, 2022

The ICF system consists of lightweight blocks (also known as forms), usually made from a compound of expandable polystyrene granules (EPS), cement and additives.

The interlocking foam blocks stack easily, and no mortar is needed to build walls (think Lego). The foam panel framework is reinforced with steel rods to lock them into place, and concrete is pumped into the cavities.

Once the concrete has been poured, the panels remain in place to act as thermic insulation. This creates a strong, airtight building with the best thermal characteristics in the concrete class.

This high-performing, cost-effective modern construction is suitable for new builds, renovations, extensions, swimming pools, basements – and many other types of buildings.

Walls normally breathe in a fire, polystyrene granules vaporize and, in prolonged high temperatures, turn into cement stone with no smoke or flame. ICF has a high bio-resistance and is resistant to insects and vegetable and animal bacteria.

The blocks are easy to cut with a handsaw, and building with them is much faster than traditional methods. Externally the blocks can be clad in brick, timber or render and internally with plasterboard and plaster.
